  • Fair Share Northgate II Wins Innovations Fund Award

    LeadingAge and the NewCourtland Foundation announced that Fair Share Northgate II is among seven recipients of the second round of grants through the Innovations Fund, which seeks to catalyze innovation among nonprofit providers of aging services by funding programs that promise to have a demonstrable impact on residents, clients, families, employees or the broader community. The seven winners were selected because they presented well-developed proposal ideas with the potential to advance the field of housing plus services and to be replicated in other communities. Through the generosity of LeadingAge members and a matching grant from the NewCourtland Foundation, grants of $25,000 have been awarded to each.

  • Health Fair at Northgate II on November 15, 2013

    Fair Share Northgate II will be holding a Health Fair on Friday November 15th 2013, running from 11am – 4pm. It will be held in the Community Center of the affordable housing high-rise located at 500 N. 7th Street and is open to the public. A variety of vendors and health care organizations from the nearby area will be in attendance and have staff on hand to provide information and answer questions about their services. Nurses and medical technicians will also be available to conduct health screenings such as blood pressure and blood sugar tests.

  • Wellness Program at Northgate II Wins Two Big Grants in 2013

    In November, Fair Share Northgate II, an affiliate nonprofit of FSHD, learned the organization had won a $25,000 Innovations Fund grant from LeadingAge and the NewCourtland Foundation. FSNGII was one of seven organizations to win this national award, which seeks to catalyze innovation among nonprofit providers of aging services by funding programs that promise to have a demonstrable impact on residents, clients, families, employees or the broader community.

  • Mayor Redd To Join Camden Seniors and Disabled on “Walk for Wellness”

    Mayor Dana Redd has agreed to cheer on senior and disabled Camden residents who are taking charge of their health as part of a “Walk for Wellness” event sponsored by Fair Share Northgate II on June 14, 2013. “We are thrilled that Mayor Redd will be here to acknowledge and promote the importance of health and wellness among our senior and disabled residents,” said NGII Director of Social Services Marilyn Mock. “Health disparities among urban minority populations are a serious issue not just in Camden but across the country. Our Northgate II residents have demonstrated a strong commitment to improving their health by participating in various wellness activities.”

  • FSHD Executive Director Peter J. O’Connor Gives Commencement Address at Berea College

    What inspires someone to begin the fight for social justice? It’s the values we learn “in the home,” longtime civil rights activist Peter J. O’Connor told the graduating class at Berea College’s 141st commencement in Kentucky on May 5. “How we are going to live our lives and treat others starts with the values we are taught by our parents.”
