  • New Pull-Out Tutoring Program to Benefit MDOC Students

An exciting new development has just begun involving our education center and the Mount Laurel School District. Our program has always been a supplemental educational resource that is available for the Ethel Lawrence Homes residents after school. • Northgate II Wellness Program Holiday 2016 Update

There’s no place like home, especially during the holiday season. This festive time of year brings to light a sad reality: many older adults who would like to “age in place” are unable to do so, particularly if they are low-income minorities. The main issue isn’t just affordable housing, it’s also the lack of social services. Assisted living, the housing of choice for middle- and upper-income seniors, is rarely an option for the poor. • Can Mindfulness Help Kids Do Well In School?

Many studies have shown that mindfulness meditation can lead to startling improvements in physical and mental health. It is known to be an effective treatment for depression, anxiety and even helps to improve focus as well as reduce behavioral problems in youth. This is particularly helpful for low-income children who suffer considerable emotional trauma and stress growing up in a household where parents live paycheck to paycheck and often suffer from anxiety or PTSD after escaping violent neighborhoods where homelessness, gang wars and crime are rife. Many families living in Fair Share Housing Development’s award-winning Ethel R. Lawrence Homes come from Camden, which is one of the poorest and most dangerous cities in the United States.
